A non-profit created and run by DJs, dancers, and promoters.
turn(the)tables on's mission is to use dance music culture to give back to the community and turn the tables on problems of inequity and injustice by harnessing the power of music, dance, and events.
Founded in December of 2015, we used that month to raise funds for our local Second Harvest Food Bank and helped turn(the)tables on hunger by providing around 2.5k extra meals to the community. Read about that here.
In March of 2016, we helped raise awareness of and set about closing the gender gap in dance music by seeking hundreds of petitions to dedicate DJ charts to female producers on International Women’s Day as a pledge for parity. Names like Collette, DJ Heather, the female:pressure collective, and many others supported, while major digital music retailers like Beatport, Traxsource, and Juno all responded to the campaign.
In April, we celebrated the life and legacy of Frankie Knuckles as part of a benefit for GMHC, the nation's leading provider of HIV and AIDS care. Proceeds were donated in his memory. September saw us helping raise funds for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society through ticket sales and fees for a Roy Davis Jr. event.
December 17th is our 2nd annual Direct Drive for Second Harvest. Donate here and be guest listed for the event at Vinyl Arts Bar. RSVP on Facebook to stay up to date. Get in touch if you'd like to join or contribute to the causes we support.
